Upon founding Capacitor in 1997, Jodi Lomask began exploring the intersection of science, environmentalism and new technology through movement, sound and sculpture. She designs motion sculptures that are only complete when the human body interacts with them. She has toured nationally and internationally with her company, creating shows inspired by the deep Earth and ocean, the forest canopy and creativity in the brain, outer space and flower sexuality, and the people who research them. Apple, NASA, TED, SFO and the Discovery Channel have commissioned her to create original works. She was recently awarded the Isadora Duncan Award for Sustained Achievement and named an Ocean Luminary by the Museum of Natural History. Her speaking engagements center around creative problem solving and interdisciplinary collaboration between artists and scientists. She will be in residence later this year at the Kennedy Center in DC. Nature Magazine, Wired, TechTV, NPR, as well as The New York Times, Time out, the Smithsonian Magazine and Dance Magazine have reported upon her work. She considers herself an experiential tour guide - making dances and environments that affect how people feel their bodies and minds.
