Full Bore

CODAME Featured Game:  Full Bore

With the CODAME GAMES showdown only days away, we thought we’d give you preview of the indie games that will be duking it out on August 21 for top bragging rights and a trip to the ARTS+TECH Festival.

This morning, we bring you Full Bore on Windows and Linux.

I’m a fan of most things pork-related. So, what’s Full Bore all about?

Casey Carlin (Lead Programmer):  Full Bore is a game about curiosity.

It’s a ‘MetroidVania‘ of sorts where you start out with all your abilities, but don’t lose them in the first cutscene.  Instead, it’s up to the player to take hints from their surroundings and the puzzles they are confronted with to figure out how to push, dig, and stomp their way through a world filled with block puzzles. Taking the initiative and exploring the world as your knowledge of the game mechanics expands will reveal shortcuts, secrets, and even harder puzzles to test your mettle.

With great graphics, fast-action gameplay, and an overall awesome design, what’s the utmost memorable part of Full Bore?

We’d like our players to never forget the experience of solving a puzzle that they found really fiendishly hard. It will likely be a different puzzle for everyone, but we’re hoping that Full Bore offers a good enough gradient of challenge that every player has at least one of these moments before they beat the game.

What was the biggest obstacle you encountered during the making of Full Bore?

The hardest part of creating Full Bore was figuring out what the game was really about.

We had the pieces lying around for a long time: a unique setting, an interesting visual style and tricky block puzzles, but those pieces had nothing holding them together.  It took us a long period of soul-searching, watching play testers, and playing the game ourselves, to tease out that curiosity was core concept behind everything we had done so far.  Realizing that overarching “message” really helped pull the game and narrative together — but it took us a year and a half to find it!

Well, hey, at least you eventually did figure out a point to your game!  It looks great, and we look forward to seeing your full-fledged CODAME demo.

Thanks for taking time to talk to us, Casey!
